Career and Practice: I started my career as a new grad at a small 120 bed hospital in 1999. Although small, it gave me the best opportunity to learn and develop my skill as a PT as I was able to work in various environments and with a wide variety of diagnosis such as medical, post op and orthopedic, SNF, inpatient Rehab, outpatient, ICU and one of my very favorites, wound care. Most people don’t realize that Physical Therapists are licensed to perform sharp debridement and wound care, but I had an amazing learning experience there that I have been able to carry with me through my years of practice. This facility gave me an amazing base of knowledge and experience to build on.

I have also been a part of opening a new outpatient clinic from the ground up, which was also a great learning experience and a stepping stone on my path to where I am now.

I moved to the Long Term Care setting on a full time basis at Legend Oaks Ennis and later moved into the Director of Rehab position for a number of years. I was there when The Ensign Group acquired the facility, among others, and I became a part of a huge family of facilities who were also Ensign Affiliates and therapists.

Being part of the Ensign family has been an amazing learning experience for me and has given me the chance to see what it is like when you have support from everyone in a facility as well as from sister facilities. Everyone wants us to succeed and be the best we can be for our clients and communities.

When Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation opened, I was able to transition from Ennis as the DOR. Being a new facility, I had the opportunity to grow the Rehab department one Therapist at a time. As we grew, I was able to add those with the best experience and skills to benefit our expanding client base for Long Term Care, Short Term as Outpatient.

Career and Practice: I received my Bachelors from California Baptist University in Health Sciences with an emphasis in Physical Therapy. I then received my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Western University of Health Sciences. Soon after graduation, my husband and I moved to Texas and I began working for Ensign. I have now been with Ensign for 2.5 years. I have experience in various settings including, inpatient, pediatrics and outpatient rehab, however, found my home here in a hybrid skilled nursing facility and am excited to see us continue to grow into an outpatient facility as well.

I have a love for this field and am passionate about inspiring the next generation of therapist. I have taken several students and find it a great pleasure to influence and teach others. I have also received my certificate in Dry Needling and Percutaneous Tibial Nerve stimulation. I have also taken courses that focus on cognitive deficits and fall prevention.

What am I passionate about? One great thing about Physical Therapy is that no matter your diagnosis, everyone is striving for the same thing, to regain what they have lost. I am especially passionate working with those who are post op and individuals who have suffered from Neurological deficits. I truly enjoy seeing the benefits that dry needling has to offer in regards to providing patients with pain relief or regaining function. I have a commitment to learning and love that the possibilities of things to learn in this field are endless. I love working in pediatrics, however, feel at home working here at Ensign.

My future goals:

  • Continue to pursue additional Dry Needling certificates
  • Become licensed in Lymphedema
  • Obtain either a specialty in Neuro or Geriatrics
  • Be a part of the growth that is Premier Outpatient Physical Therapy
